چکیده

Infinite level-dependent quasi-birth-and-death (LDQBD) processes can be used to model Markovian systems with countably infinite multidimensional state spaces. Recently it has been shown that sums of Kronecker products can be used to represent the nonzero blocks of the transition rate matrix underlying an LDQBD process for models from stochastic chemical kinetics. This paper extends the form of the transition rates used recently so that a larger class of models including those of call centers can be analyzed for their steadystate. The challenge in thematrix analytic solution then is to compute conditional expected sojourn timematrices of the LDQBDmodel under lowmemory and time requirements after truncating its countably infinite state space judiciously. Results of numerical experiments are presented using a Kronecker-based matrix-analytic solution on models with two or more countably infinite dimensions and rules of thumb regarding better implementations are derived. In doing this, a more recent approach that reduces memory requirements further by enabling the computation of steady-state expectations without having to obtain the steady-state distribution is also considered. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. Kronecker-Based Infinite Level-Dependent QBD Processes

Markovian systems with multiple interacting subsystems under the influence of a control unit are considered. The state spaces of the subsystems are countably infinite, whereas that of the control unit is finite. A recent infinite level-dependent quasi-birth-and-death model for such systems is extended by facilitating the automatic representation and generation of the nonzero blocks in its under...

Applied Methods for some Planning and Analysis Problems in Telecommunications Networking

The dissertation deals with two important issues in telecommunications networking, namely with network planning and with analytical performance evaluation. The main topics are presented according to their elaboration order. The first part of the present dissertation deals with the task of topology optimization for an ATM network overlaid in the SDH infrastructure. The scientific contributions o...

Evaluating Computer-Communication Systems using Infinite-State Stochastic Petri Nets

For modelling and evaluating the performance of modern computer communication systems, quasi-birth-and-death models (QBDs) can often be used. For such QBDs, a variety of highly efficient numerical solution algorithms have been developed. For models of practically relevant size though, the specification of QBDs at the state level is cumbersome or practically infeasible. To overcome this problem,...

Computational Aspects for Steady State Analysis of Qbd Processes

In this paper, we give a survey on computational methods developed for steady state solution of QBD (Quasi Birth-Death) processes. Moreover, we adopt and implement a comparative framework to evaluate the capability of some chosen methods (spectral expansion, matrix geometric and its enhanced versions) in both finite and infinite cases. Numerical aspects concerning complexity, memory requirement...

Infinite Level-dependent Qbd Processes and Matrix-analytic Solutions for Stochastic Chemical Kinetics

Systems of stochastic chemical kinetics are modeled as infinite level-dependent quasibirth-and-death (LDQBD) processes. For these systems, in contrast to many other applications, levels have an increasing number of states as the level number increases and the probability mass may reside arbitrarily far away from lower levels. Ideas from Lyapunov theory are combined with existing matrix-analytic...
